Taxes and War Profiteers

One hopes that this sign could be the beginning of pacifists understanding that taxes and war go hand in hand. It was displayed at the Brandywine Peace Community's Good Friday Stations of Justice, Peace, and Nonviolent Resistance at Lockheed Martin, King of Prussia, PA (Mainstream media coverage can be read here.)
Knowledge that war depends on taxation is nothing new. During World War II Disney helped with propaganda to encourage submission to the legal plunder that is often referred to as taxation:
Thomas Paine covered the subject of war and taxes well in “The Rights of Man”:
…the portion of liberty enjoyed in England is just enough to enslave a country more productively than by despotism, and that as the real object of all despotism is revenue, a government so formed obtains more than it could do either by direct despotism, or in a full state of freedom, and is, therefore on the ground of interest, opposed to both. They account also for the readiness which always appears in such governments for engaging in wars by remarking on the different motives which produced them. In despotic governments wars are the effect of pride; but in those governments in which they become the means of taxation, they acquire thereby a more permanent promptitude.

War is the common harvest of all those who participate in the division and expenditure of public money, in all countries. It is the art of conquering at home; the object of it is an increase of revenue; and as revenue cannot be increased without taxes, a pretense must be made for expenditure. In reviewing the history of the English Government, its wars and its taxes, a bystander, not blinded by prejudice nor warped by interest, would declare that taxes were not raised to carry on wars, but that wars were raised to carry on taxes

Every war terminates with an addition of taxes, and consequently with an addition of revenue; and in any event of war, in the manner they are now commenced and concluded, the power and interest of Governments are increased. War, therefore, from its productiveness, as it easily furnishes the pretense of necessity for taxes and appointments to places and offices, becomes a principal part of the system of old Governments

When the left decries the government’s diversion of its resources from human needs to the military it is on to something. War does impoverish us. What the left needs to understand is that a government with the resources to build schools also has the resources to build drones, a government with the resources to build roads also has the resources to build jet fighters, and a government with the power to tax and create money has the resources to pay for the weapons mentioned above and to wage war.

And wage war it will, for as Randolph Bourne wrote "War Is the Health of the State". Giving the state resources only feeds the war machine. Welfare at home and warfare abroad are also just flip sides of the same coin. If the left really wants to see Dr. King’s dream of peace come true they must face the reality that they can not give the government the tools it needs to wage war and expect it not to do so. It’s not enough to advocate that they not buy weapons. We must take away the tools they use to acquire them. This means that we must end the Federal Reserve System, the income tax, the federal government’s social spending, its regulatory role, and its police powers. Peace will only come when the government is powerless to commit evil acts both at home and abroad.
It comes as no surprise to libertarians that when governments use aggression at home to finance their operations they use much of that loot to aggress abroad. To really advocate peace pacifists need to apply their principles consistently. The use of force is either consonant with pacifist principles or it isn't. There is no magic of the collective that excuses the government using force in a way that is immoral for individuals to do so. I have no doubt that none of the members of the Brandywine Peace Community would themselves ever use force, or the threat thereof, to separate anyone from their money. Why then do they advocate that the government do so? Taxation isn't consonant with pacifist principles. It can't be enforced without using force, a violation of everything pacifists claim to stand for. Until they resolve this conflict pacifists may say they want peace but are really the enablers of war and other aggressions. We won't get rid of the scourge of war until we rid ourselves of the scourge of taxation.

How and Why Adam Kokesh was Framed (video)

The description of the video on YouTube says it all, no need for me to add anything:
WeAreChange goes to the home of activist and YouTube host Adam Kokesh to find out what happened on the night he was raided and arrested. Kokesh's home was raided following a video he released of him loading a shotgun in Washington D.C. as an act of civil disobedience to protest laws that restrict or deny people of the 2nd amendment. Kokesh did not threaten anyone with the shotgun or use it in any violent way. When his home was raided, the police said that they found magic mushrooms in his safe along with his guns which is a felony charge in Virginia. Kokesh and his housemates who were there on the night of the raid claim the drugs were not Kokesh's and that he is being set up. They claim the house and the safe was completely clean of any illegal substances and that they actually witnessed police bringing in evidence bags that were already full. Kokesh is currently being held in solitary confinement and has been denied bail.

The International Libertarian Says #MyFriendAdam Kokesh is a Peaceful Person (video)

Adam Kokesh is being described by the judge who denied him bail as "a very dangerous man". I say #MyFriendAdam Kokesh is a peaceful person. Standing With #MyFriendAdam Kokesh

Myself literally standing with the dancing and allegedly dangerous Adam Kokesk at the Dance Party at Thomas Jefferson's Memorial in 2011. Before that the dangerous dancer Adam was really slacking in his violent behavior as he reacted very nonchalantly to the Park Police slamming him down on the concrete floor at the Jefferson Memorial:
This just proves how ridiculous judge Sullivan's characterization of Adam as "a very dangerous man" is. The press release from Shield Mutual explains the situation:
Friends of Adam Kokesh Speak out: Adam is a Peaceful Man, not Dangerous

(Philadelphia, PA, July 31, 2013)—Shield Mutual is launching the "My Friend Adam" project in support of libertarian activist Adam Kokesh on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at http://MyFriendAdam.org.

Family, friends, fans and allies of Kokesh are posting videos, photos, tweets and Facebook status updates in support of Kokesh with the hashtag #MyFriendAdam. Liberty community businesses are offering prizes for the best videos.

Kokesh was arrested at his Virginia home on July 9 in a brutal paramilitary raid by US Park Police, complete with laser sights, APCs and black helicopters. Kokesh is facing Virginia state victimless crime charges and is currently being held against his will in a Washington, D.C. cage on a single firearm possession victimless crime charge after his July 4 YouTube video in which he appears to load a shotgun in Washington D.C.'s Freedom Plaza.

Judge Frederick Sullivan denied Kokesh bail this past Monday, July 29, 2013 claiming that Kokesh is "a very dangerous man."

"Our goal is to get Adam out of that cage so he can properly defend himself in the legal process and attend to his business, the 'Adam vs. The Man' show," said George Donnelly of Shield Mutual, Kokesh's public relations defense firm. "We will correct Sullivan's misstatement once and for all with our first-hand YouTube testimony." Before August 13, 2013 when Adam Kokesh next has a chance at bail, MyFriendAdam.org hopes to inspire thousands of video blogs and social media posts in defense of the peace activist.

Smoke Down Prohibition 6: The Police State Escalates (video and pictures)

The sixth Smoke Down Prohibition happened on June 30, 2013 in Philadelphia, PA. The police state turned out in greater strength than ever. They put on an overwhelming show of force. There were several arrests but fortunately no one was hurt.

This is what a police state looks like:

Adam Kokesh Calls on American Revolutionary Army to March on 50 State Capitols

A sign held up outside the federal courthouse in Philadelphia, PA during Kokesh's and Poe's hearings
(Philadelphia, PA, May 24, 2013)— Political prisoner and activist Adam Kokesh has released a statement from inside the Philadelphia federal prison about his planned July 4th, 2013 Open Carry March on Washington, DC. The statement was read by comedian and activist N.A. Poe, until recently a fellow prisoner of Kokesh’s, today Friday, May 24 at 1PM in front of the Philadelphia federal prison.

[CORRECTION: The statement was read by Lucas Jewell, business manager of Kokesh's online show "Adam vs. the Man."]

What follows is Kokesh’s complete and unabridged statement.

“When a government has repeatedly and deliberately failed to follow its own laws, violated the fundamental human rights of its citizens, threatened the sanctity of a free press, created institutions intended to eliminate privacy of communication, waged war at the behest of special interest that threatens the public safety, killed hundreds of children with drone strikes, imprisoned and destroyed the lives of countless individuals for victimless crimes, stifled economic opportunity to maintain the dominance of the financial elite, stolen from the people through an absurd system of taxation and inflation, sold future generations into debt slavery, and abused its power to suppress political opposition, it is unfit to exist and it becomes the duty of the people to alter or abolish that government by whatever means necessary to secure liberty and ensure peace.

“A new American revolution is long overdue. This revolution has been brewing in the hearts and minds of the people for many years, but this Independence Day, it shall take a new form as the American Revolutionary Army will march on each state capital to demand that the governors of these 50 states immediately initiate the process of an orderly dissolution of the federal government through secession and reclamation of federally held property. Should one whole year from this July 4th pass while the crimes of this government are allowed to continue, we may have passed the point at which non-violent revolution becomes impossible.

“The time to sit idly by has passed. To remain neutral is to be complicit, just doing your job is not an excuse, and the line in the sand has been drawn between the people, and the criminals in Washington, D.C. While some timid souls will say that it is too early, that we can solve this problem through democratic means provided by government, that current levels of taxation are reasonable for the services provided, and that the crimes of this government are merely a tolerable nuisance, it may already be too late.

“While there is risk in drastic action, the greater danger lies in allowing this government to continue unchallenged. So if you are content with the status quo, stay home, get fat, watch the fireworks from a safe distance, and allow this Independence Day to pass like any other. But if you see as we see, and feel as we feel, we will see you on the front lines of freedom on July 4th, 2013 for this, The Final American Revolution.”

Signed, Adam Kokesh, May 23, 2013 from a cage in the Philadelphia federal prison.
Kokesh and Poe were arrested on Saturday, May 18, 2013 while speaking to a permitted marijuana legalization rally at Independence Mall National Historic Park in center city Philadelphia, in a space specifically designated for free speech. They are being framed on felony charges of assaulting a federal officer, despite overwhelming video footage to the contrary.

“They just came after Adam [Kokesh] and N.A. Poe, the organizer of Smokedown – the only two there out of hundreds present who were taken into custody,” said Michael Salvi, an observer of the rally.

At a preliminary hearing in front of US Magistrate Judge Thomas J. Rueter in the Byrne courthouse on Monday, May 20, 2013, Kokesh and Poe were denied bail. Poe was subsequently released on Thursday, May 23, 2013. Kokesh was denied release on the same day.

Lemonade and Raw Milk Rebels (Video)

They came to Washington DC from cities and small towns, from near and far, to break the law. Their crime? Selling raw milk and lemonade without permits nor licenses. Fortunately, the civil disobedience went well. Unlike last year the police didn't interfere and the protest went off with no one arrested.
